Oncology research and treatment are constantly evolving, and staying current with advances in the field is a significant challenge for community-based oncology nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants and other oncology clinicians. Furthermore, oncology health care providers are required to master an extensive spectrum of issues ranging from drug administration and compliance, treatment of side effects, and supportive care to sensitive psychosocial concerns as well as reimbursement and regulatory issues.
Through effective collaboration of both academic and community-based experts, an educational curriculum can be developed and delivered which provides integration of the most recent data with practical clinical application. Accordingly, the ultimate goal of the program is to improve cancer care quality and enhance patient outcomes at the community level.
