Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncologic emergency with potentially fatal complications. The cornerstone of appropriate management of TLS is the identification of patients at risk and use of appropriate prophylactic measures. Because of the greater incidence of hematologic malignancies in children and the increased risk of TLS in these diseases, prevention and treatment of TLS in pediatric cancers is a well-discussed topic.
This CME activity will update physicians who treat adult patients at high risk of tumor lysis syndrome on the classification, risk assessment, prophylaxis, treatment, and complications of TLS.
This program will discuss the definitions of laboratory and clinical TLS and the use of the severity grading system for stratifying and treating cancer patients based on their risk of developing TLS. The expert faculty will also discuss the impact of acute kidney injury on the prognosis of cancer patients and methods to prevent acute kidney injury in cancer patients at risk for developing TLS.
